Softball Preview: Wells Leopards vs. Round Mountain Knights
By Team Reports
May 13, 2025, 12:15 am
The Wells Leopards will face off against the Round Mountain Knights at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Wells will be strutting in after a victory while Round Mountain will be coming in after a loss.
Seven must be Wells' lucky number: they beat Pyramid Lake with that score not once but twice on Saturday. The Leopards came out on top against the Lakers by a score of 7-4. The win was familiar territory for the Leopards, who have now won three contests in a row.
Aryanna Rodriguez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits.
On the hitting side, Jitzel Rivas and Adriana Aguilar did most of the damage at the plate: Rivas went 1-for-2 with three RBI, while Aguilar earned one run and four stolen bases. That's the most RBI Rivas has posted over her last 13 games.
On Thursday, May 15, 2025, the Wells Varsity Girls Softball team won their game against Round Mountain High School by a score of 4-1.
*The Wells Leopards will square off against the Pahranagat Valley Panthers at 10:00 a.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Wells sitting on four straight wins and Pahranagat Valley on six.
Khloe DelRio made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. That's the most strikeouts she has posted over her last seven contests. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI.
In other batting news, Adriana Aguilar was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. Grace Otto was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.
Meanwhile, Pahranagat Valley made easy work of Pyramid Lake on Thursday and carried off a 12-4 victory. Considering the Panthers have won 20 games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Wells' record now sits at 22-7. As for Pahranagat Valley, their record is now 22-8.
Wells might still be hurting after the 20-5 loss they got from Pahranagat Valley in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Leopards avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
On Friday, May 16, 2025, the Wells Varsity Girls Softball team won their game against Round Mountain High School by a score of 6-5.
**Softball Recap: Wells Leopards vs. Pahranagat Valley Panthers**
By Team Reports
May 17, 2025, 1:38 pm
Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, Wells couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They came up short against the Pahranagat Valley Panthers on Saturday, falling 15-5. Unfortunately, that's the fourth time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, with their most recent defeat being a 12-9 loss on Friday.
Adriana Aguilar made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Wells' loss dropped their record down to 23-9. As for Pahranagat Valley, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 24-8.

State Baseball
Baseball Recap: Wells Leopards vs. Liberty Baptist Academy Knights
By Team Reports
May 15, 2025, 8:46 pm
Wells had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They skirted past the Liberty Baptist Academy Knights 8-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Leopards have posted since April 15th.
Wells' win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Luis Garcia, who went 2-for-5 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
The victory made it two in a row for Wells and bumps their season record up to 28-6. It's not like the team was facing easy opposition over that stretch either, as it included 16-4 Smith Valley (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 76.5% over those games). As for Liberty Baptist Academy, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 19-7 record this season.
Wells and Liberty Baptist Academy are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Leopards will take on Indian Springs at 10:00 a.m. on Friday. The Thunderbirds will roll in looking for their ninth straight win, something Wells surely won't give up without a fight.
Baseball Recap: Wells Leopards vs. Smith Valley Bulldogs
By Team Reports
May 16, 2025, 7:38 pm
It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Wells can now relate to. They fell 9-5 to the Smith Valley Bulldogs on Friday. The Leopards were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Bulldogs earlier this season, when they won 7-4.
Charley Peterson was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
This is the second loss in a row for Wells and nudges their season record down to 28-8. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 22-5 Indian Springs (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 79.9% over those games). As for Smith Valley, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 18-5.
