The Nevada State Board of Education is seeking community input about high school start times through a statewide survey. The survey is available on the Nevada Department of Education's website and will remain open through Oct. 4.
This survey aims to collect input from students, parents, educators, and community members to guide decision-making on this important issue. The results of the survey may influence the development of a bill draft request for the 2025 legislative session. A bill of this nature would likely include decision-making from the state level about school start times in our county, as well as at all High School's across the state.
To complete the survey, please visit the Nevada Department of Education's website at

Wells is 10-0 against Carlin since October of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Wells Leopards are on the road again to play the Carlin Railroaders at 5:00 p.m. Carlin took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Wells, who comes in off a win.
Having struggled with three losses in a row, Wells finally turned things around against Wendover on Saturday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Wildcats , sneaking past 2-1.
Wells had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next two. The match finished with set scores of 22-25, 25-20, 15-6.
Meanwhile, Carlin was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They lost 3-0 to Owyhee.
While Carlin was kept off the board, it wasn't for a lack of trying: they cut into Owyhee's winning margin in every set. The match finished with set scores of 25-12, 25-14, 25-21.
Despite the loss, Carlin saw an underclassman step up: Emily Wall had 21 digs. Wall is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 20 or more in the last three games she's played dating back to last season.
Wells' victory bumped their record up to 3-9. As for Carlin, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-6.
Wells was able to grind out a solid win over Carlin in their previous meeting back in November of 2023, winning 3-1. Will Wells repeat their success, or does Carlin have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
On the evening of Thursday, September 19th, our varsity boys' football team suffered a defeat in their game against Mineral County High School. The final score was 24-52 in favor of Mineral County. The Leopards will travel to Carlin to take on the Railroaders on Thursday, September 26th @7 pm.
Wells Elementary is currently celebrating reading week with the theme "Inside Out." To kick off the festivities, teachers and some students dressed up as various emotions from the movie, creating a lively and engaging atmosphere for what promises to be an exciting and successful week of reading activities.
In girls' golf, our team has been performing exceptionally well. Today in Elko, they secured first place with a team score of 512. Individually, Evelyn finished in 2nd place and Grace in 3rd place. Way to go ladies!
