Lady Leopards shock the world
EUREKA — Entering the Division 1A East regional tournament, the Wells volleyball team’s record was 4-6 in league play — posting wins against only Carlin and McDermitt.
The No. 4 Lady Leopards needed two wins in order to qualify for the state tourney — playing in the lone quarterfinal match — and found their stride at the right time.
On Saturday, No. 4 Wells shut out No. 5 McDermitt in straight sets — sweeping the season series with the Lady Bulldogs — followed with a shocking sweep of No. 1 Eureka in the semifinal round and punched its ticket to the big dance.
In the regional championship, the Lady Leopards lost 3-1 in four games to No. 2 Lund.
Versus McDermitt
Against the Lady Bulldogs, Wells never faced a margin closer than five points — winning in three frames by scores of 25-17, 25-19 and 25-20.
Versus Eureka
Against the hosting and No. 1 Lady Vandals, the Lady Leopards not only won — in a sweep — they dominated.
After a 25-20 victory in the first set, Wells closed out the margin with consecutive double-digit victories of 25-14 and 25-15.
Versus Lund
In the regional title match, the Lady Leopards may have run out of gas — the lone team of the tournament that played three times on the same day — could not find their stride after an emotional victory and did play their best volleyball.
Lund won the first set 25-21, and the Lady Mustangs followed with a 25-20 victory in the second.
Wells staved off elimination with a 25-21 win in the third set, but Lund slammed the door and claimed the regional championship with a 25-17 victory in the fourth,
State Tournament
The East No. 2 Lady Leopards (8-21 overall, 4-6 in league) will face Central No. 1 Round Mountain (17-5 overall, 6-0 in league) in the quarterfinal round of the Division 2A Nevada State Volleyball Championships at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, at Fernley High School.

Mrs. B took her sophomore class on a tour of Wells! They explored the Presbyterian Church, viewed the aerial photo at City Hall, visited the Coral House (the oldest structure in Wells), saw the site of the first jail, toured the Bank of Wells, stopped by the Visitor Center, checked out the little red schoolhouse, and explored the second jail. A fun and educational trip through our town’s history!

Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Lakers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 2-0 back in August.
The match finished with set scores of 25-14, 19-25, 25-17, 25-9.
