Baseball Recap: Wells picks up fifth straight win at home
Baseball Recap: Wells Leopards vs. Eureka Vandals

Apr 7, 2024, 2:49 pm
Wells came tearing into Friday's matchup with eight straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.5 runs) and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the Eureka Vandals as they made off with a 16-5 win. Considering Wells has won nine games by more than seven runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Cesar Berumen made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over two innings while giving up no earned run off one hit (and only one walk). Berumen has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive pitching appearances. Berumen was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with a home run, three runs, and three RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Luis Garcia, who scored four runs and stole four bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Tristen Zimmerman was another key contributor, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
Wells pushed their record up to 10-2 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Eureka, they haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-5.
The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Wells beat Eureka by a score of 10-0 later that day.
