Football Recap: Wells Escapes with a Win
Football Recap: Wells Leopards vs. Pyramid Lake Lakers
By Team Reports
Oct 18, 2026, 12:30 pm
After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Carlin, Wells was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Pyramid Lake Lakers 16-14. The victory was some much-needed relief for the Leopards as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
The critical scores for Wells came from Jesse Popejoy and Landon Hall.
Wells didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Justice Nelson. Wells received some extra help from Popejoy, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.
Wells' win brought them up to 5-3. As for Pyramid Lake, they have been struggling for a while as they've lost seven of their last eight games, dating back to last year. That's dragged them to a 1-6 record this season.
We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Wells is set to square off against their familiar foe Mineral County at 7:00 p.m. on the 23rd.
Way to go, LEOPARDS and coaches!
