Wells senior Isaac Gale has hit stride in the final season of his high school cross-country career.
Of Elko County’s athletes — consisting of Wells, West Wendover and Carlin — Gale was the lone runner who competed in the varsity division of the Jerome Invite in southern Idaho.
Gale ran well and finished seventh overall with a time of 17:33.1 on the Jerome Country Club course.
Junior Varsity Girls
Wells’ varsity team ran in the JV girls portion of the meet and ranked fifth in the standings with 112 points.
Individually, the Lady Leopards — sophomore Maggie Neff and senior April Bochman — ran two-three with respective times of 23:37.5 and 23:57.6.
Sophomore Reese Livingstone crossed in 26:47.7 for 22nd place.
Senior Marli Dahl ran a 29:43.9 for 42nd, and sophomore Brynli Dahl closed out the roster in 32:59.8 in 61st.
West Wendover fielded just two girls, as senior Keyla Escareno led the way in 63rd with a time of 33:35.8 and senior Alexis Miramontes capped the team in 66th with a time of 34:09.6.
Junior Varsity Boys
The rest of the Wells, Carlin and West Wendover varsity athletes took part in the JV boys race.
For the team standings, Carlin ranked 10th with 295 points, and West Wendover rounded out the 11-team field with 300 points.
The Leopards finished one boy short of a team score, but the best local finish of the race was provided by Wells junior Weston Sorensen in 21:20.3 for 33rd place.
Carlin junior Slade Haviland led the Railroaders in 41st with a time of 21:40.
Wells freshman Chad Radebaugh crossed in 21:53.3 for 49th.
West Wendover senior Aiden Benitez posted the best run for the Wolverines with a time of 24:20.1 for 96th place.
The Leopards gained a 24:46.8 in 108th from junior Jayden Kiser, and West Wendover senior Adrian Collazo crossed 114th in 25:32.6.
The Wolverines went back-to-back in 120th and 121st with times of 26:18.6 by senior Nikk Flores and 26:21.3 for freshman Angel Rodriguez.
Carlin junior Wyatt Kamensky ran a 28:06.6 in 133rd, and sophomore teammate Jeremiah Urenda finished two spots later with a time of 28:40 for 136th.
West Wendover junior Jayden Gonzalez closed out the roster in 29:59.3 for 146th place.
Carlin sophomore Jhon Vicente ran 153rd with a time of 32:38.1.
Elko County athletes crossed consecutively and capped the local field in 158th and 159th as Wells sophomore Teo Garcia finished in 35:41.1 and Carlin senior Landon Bolton posted a 38:36.2.
