SPRING CREEK — At the Spring Creek Kiwanis Invite, Elko ranked fifth with 189.5 points and placed seven wrestlers in the top six.

Host Spring Creek placed seventh in the standings with a team score of 177.5 and placed six wrestlers in the top six.

Wells was 21st with 52 points and placed one grappler in the top six, and West Wendover followed in 22nd with 40.5 points and also placed one wrestler.

Kody Goss

Individually, one local wrestler stood above the rest.

Elko’s Kody Goss was the lone local champion in his respective weight class.

Wrestling at 157 pounds, Goss posted a record of 5-0 with three wins by fall and another by technical fall.

In the championship, he defeated Buhl’s Zan Parker by decision with the score at 14-8.

Hubert Sharp

Also wrestling for the Indians, Hubert Sharp was Elko’s second wrestler who competed in a title match.

At 285 pounds, Sharp tallied a record of 4-1 with two wins by fall. In the final, he was pinned by Buhl’s Caleb Carpenter at the 4:31 mark of the third period.

Third-Place Finishers

In total, three Elko wrestlers took home consolation titles. Riott Duke

The Indians placed two wrestlers at 165 pounds, as Riott Duke joined Goss — the champion — with a third-place finish.

Duke closed his tournament with a 7-1 record with two wins by fall and a pair of victories by major decision. In the consolation final, he defeated Fernley’s Isaid Solis by a 7-3 decision.

Colton Cunningham

For Spring Creek, Colton Cunningham took third at 165 pounds and finished 6-1 with three pins and two wins by tech fall. In the consolation final, he stuck Moapa Valley’s Ryker Katich in 2:34 and avenged a loss by fall in 1:59 to Katich in his third match. 

Hagen Robinson

For Elko, Hagen Robinson ranked third at 175 pounds and notched a 4-1 record with two wins by tech fall and one pin.

In the consolation championship, he bested Caldwell’s Joshua Rojas by a score of 9-4.

Fourth-Place Finishers

Altogether, two local wrestlers ranked fourth in the respective weight classes.

Johnny Glascock

For Wells, Johnny Glascock finished fourth at 132 pounds and went 5-2 with four pins.

In the consolation final, he dropped an 8-4 decision to Truckee’s Jack Ridgel — who handed Glascock his other loss by a tally of 7-3.

Bradley Nelson

For the Indians, Bradley Nelson took fourth in the 106-pound division and notched a record of 4-2 with three pins and a win by tech fall.

For third and fourth, Nelson was pinned by Truckee’s Ace Pena at the 1:56 mark of the consolation championship.

Fifth-Place Finishers

The most common finish of local wrestlers who placed was fifth.

In total, five Elko County products ranked fifth in the respective divisions.

Jared Tilger

For the Spartans, Jared Tilger placed fifth at 132 pounds and posted a 5-2 record with four wins by fall and another by tech fall.

In the fifth-sixth match, Tilger pinned Damonte Ranch’s Bejamin Browning at the 3:34 mark.

Zuriel Mildren

Elko’s Zuriel Mildren took fifth in the 165-pound class and went 5-2 with three pins and a win by tech fall. For fifth and sixth, he stuck Buhl’s Walter Olsen at the end of the second round.

Damon Tilger

Spring Creek’s Damon Tilger placed fifth at 113 pounds and finished 5-2 with two wins by fall and one by tech fall. In the fifth-sixth match, he won by a forfeit from Twin Falls’ Weston Nebeker.

Nick Lusk

For the Spartans, Nick Lusk ranked fifth at 157 pounds and went 5-2 with two pins. Lusk won his fifth-sixth match with a forfeit by Kimberly’s Koen Barendregt.

Tony Bautista

Spring Creek’s Tony Bautista finished fifth in the 215-pound class and tallied a 4-2 record with three pins and a win by major decision.

Wrestling for fifth and sixth, Bautista booked a 16-6 victory by major decision over Fernley’s Koen Kreller.

Sixth-Place Finishers

A trio of Elko Country grapplers ranked sixth in the respective weight classes: one each from Elko, Spring Creek and West Wendover.

Skyler Mangel

For the Spartans, Skyler Mangel placed sixth at 175 pounds and went 4-3 with all of his wins coming by fall.

In the fifth-sixth match, he forfeited to Fallon’s Alijah Juarez.

Issac Sweat

For the Wolverines, Issac Sweat took sixth at 285 pounds and finished 4-3 with two wins by fall. In the fifth-sixth match, Sweatt forfeited to Caldwell’s Lucas Rosario.

Darren Foster

Elko’s Darren Foster placed sixth in the 190-pound division and went 3-3 with one pin. For fifth and sixth, he lost by fall at the 4:45 mark to White Pine’s Jacob Hall.
