PYRAMID LAKE — On Oct. 16, the Wells football team found itself in a game on the road.
At Pyramid Lake, the Lakers — despite being sixth in the 1A North standings — were not going to lay down or go quietly into the night.
After a spirited effort, the Leopards hung and won by two scores by a final score of 52-36.
Wells did the bulk of its damage on the ground, rushing for 364 yards as a team on 41 carries — averaging nearly nine yards per touch.
Senior quarterback Joe Dahl completed 0-for-5 passes but ran for a team-high 157 yards on 16 attempts with one touchdown.
On special teams, he returned three kickoffs for 127 yards and broke one to the end zone.
Junior Johnny Glasock ran 11 times for 123 yards and two scores, and senior Gage Uhlig provided a team-best three touchdowns with 10 totes for 69 yards.
Sophomore Justice Nelson rounded out the ground game with 15 yards on four attempts.
Defensively, Glascock led Wells with an absurd 19 tackles — Uhlig also reaching double digits with 10 stops.
A trio of Leopards — junior Marcus Uhart, senior Caden Crane and sophomore Kade Kelly — tallied five stops apiece.
Kelly also posted Wells’ lone takeaway with an interception.
Dahl recorded four tackles, Nelson added three and junior Henry Morris and sophomore Raleigh Groves tacked on two each.
The defense was capped with a stop apiece for senior CD Hunt and sophomore Cade Sampson.
Versus Mineral County
The Leopards (4-4 overall, 4-2 in league) were scheduled for a tough test in order to maintain their third-place position in the 3A North standings in the home finale against No. 1 Mineral County (6-1 overall, 6-0 in league) at 5 p.m. Thursday, in Wells.
