NEW WASHOE CITY — On Tuesday and Wednesday, a pair of Elko County girls — both qualifying as individuals — competed in the Division 2A Nevada State Girls Golf Championships.

At Toiyabe Golf Club, Wells senior Grace Otto tied for 11th place and earned a 2nd-Team All-State selection with a two-round total of 224 strokes — shooting consistently with a score of 111 in the first round and a 113 in the second.

West Wendover senior Belsi Mendoza capped her career with a 21st-place 267, posting nearly-identical rounds of 133 and 134.

Incline won the state championship with a two-round total of 847 — opening a 27-stroke margin of victory — carding a 428 on day one and a 419 on day two.

Oasis Academy served as the runner-up with a two-day score of 874 on rounds of 431 and 443.

Sierra Lutheran finished third with an 896 (447 and 449), and White Pine capped the four-team field with a 1,050 on cards of 537 and 513.

1st-Team All-State

Despite not qualifying as a team, North Tahoe’s two girls took home the top two spots individually.

Addison Jons claimed the hardware by 11 strokes with a 159 — posting rounds of 82 and 77 — and Leah Hornsy followed in second with a 170 (87 and 83).

Sage Ridge’s Morgan Hayes — another individual qualifier — placed third with an 87 and a 91 for a two-day tally of 178.

Oasis Academy’s Meirra Cavanaugh took fourth with a 180 on consistent scores of 91 and 89, Incline’s Chloe Creer closed out the top five with a 184 on matching 92s and Oasis Academy’s Olivia Kutansky capped the 1st-Team All-State medalists with a 185 (97 and 88) — giving the Lady Lakers and the Lady Bighorns two girls in the top six.

2nd-Team All-State

The 2nd-Team All-State performers were kicked opened with a tie for seventh place on matching totals of 202 for Incline’s Ashley Simonov and Sierra Lutheran’s Cailyn Schroeder — who each posted identical rounds of 97 and 105 — and Virginia City’s Kasia Hoffheins finished ninth with a 205 (103 and 102).

In 10th, Sierra Lutheran’s Briella Bodenstein carded a 223 on rounds of 121 and a much-improved 102.

The 2nd-Team All-State golfers were rounded out with a three-way share of 11th, 12th and 13th on totals of 224 for Otto (111 and 113), Incline’s Georgia Stembridge (117 and 107) and Virginia City’s Kaiya Krum (118 and 106).

Other Placings

Whittell’s Emma Stewart ranked 14th with a 227 (119 and 108), Sierra Lutheran’s Rossi Erven finished out the top 15 with a 234 (111 and 123) and White Pine’s Payton Walker took 16th with a 235 (116 and 119).

Sierra Lutheran’s Lily Sumner (118 and 119) and Incline’s Katie McKean (122 and 115) tied for 17th with matching totals of 237.

Oasis Academy’s Bailey Beebe finished 19th with a 241 (112 and 129), Battle Mountain’s Noel Hill closed off the top 20 with a 253 (126 and 127) and Mendoza followed in 21st with a 267 (133 and 134).

Oasis Academy’s Emma Papada was 22nd with a 268 (131 and 137), White Pine’s Oaklee Campeau placed 23rd at 269 (140 and 129) and White Pine’s Rilee Taylor ranked 24th with a 272 (143 and 131).

The Lady Bobcats’ roster and the field were capped with a 25th-place 274 for Isabell Calendar (143 and 131) and a 26th-place 287 by Guinevere Callendar (146 and 141).
