JEROME, Idaho — Elko County’s runners had a strong presence at the Jerome Invite.
On Aug. 28, five of Elko’s County’s cross-country programs competed in the event — most of which were taking part in the junior varsity division — with Wells claiming a pair of victories in the boys and girls races.
JV Boys
Wells junior Isaac Gale won the junior varsity boys race with a time of 17:28.19 — opening more than a 17-second margin of victory — and led the Leopards to a third-place finish in the team standings with 95 points.
West Wendover ranked 12th in the team standings with 312 points.
For the Leopards, senior Cameron Livingstone crossed 10th in 18:22.03 and junior Mason Noorda followed in 18:31.77 for 11th place.
Sophomore Jayden Rodriguez ran 15th in 18:36.68 for the Wolverines.
In 52nd, Wells junior Marcos Cobian crossed in 20:57.03.
Sophomore teammate Jayden Kiser finished in 21:33.89 for 70th, and senior teammate Carson Ballard posted a 22:01.97 in 79th.
At 120th, West Wendover junior Ethan Hammar closed his run in 23:37.47 — Jackpot sophomore Kevin Jack following in 121st with a time of 23:39.36.
Senior Angel Martinez crossed in 24:19.78 for the Jaguars.
West Wendover junior Aiden Benitez took 138th in 25:34.66, and senior Oscar Chavez followed in 26:16.61 for 142nd.
The Wolverines crossed in order in 146th and 147th with respective times of 26:37.53 for junior Nikk Flores and 26:38.44 by sophomore Jayden Rodriguez.
Carlin sophomore Wyatt Kamensky ran a 27:28.5 for 157th, and West Wendover’s Aleixo Luna took 161st in 28:10.14.
For the Railroaders, sophomore Tyson Ziegler posted a 31:04.24 for 169th.
West Wendover’s roster was capped with a 173rd-place time of 32:12.58 for senior Allan Childress.
Carlin’s team was rounded out with a 35:28.23 in 176th for freshman Jhon Vicente and a 38:19.16 at 178th by junior Landon Bolton.
JV Girls
While no Elko County program fielded enough athletes for a team score, Wells sophomore Millie Cromley collected the individual hardware — running first with a time of 21:38.92.
Junior teammate April Bochman posted a 24:30.20 for 14th place.
Freshman Maggie Neff took 35th with a time of 26:52.11.
Carlin senior Jaden Loftin crossed 57th in 28:55.52, and Jackpot junior Karina Lucero finished in 29:34.88 at 62nd.
For the Lady Railroaders, sophomore Sophia Cantrell was 85th with a time of 31:36.22.
The Lady Jags crossed in order with times of 31:55.26 and 32:02.61 in 87th and 88th; respectively, for seniors Eunice Dominguez and Jocelyn Cervantes.
West Wendover juniors Karina Perez and Keyla Escareno ranked 109th and 112th with times of 35:29.20 and 35:45.49; respectively.
Carlin’s athletes capped the local field as freshman Savannah Hughes crossed in 37:55.74 for 120th and sophomore Lexie Brown followed in order at 121st with a time of 38:04.80.
Varsity Girls
Just one Elko County runner competed in the varsity girls division.
Owyhee senior Angelina Mason closed out the 99-girl field with a time of 43:29.70.
