Softball Recap: Wells Leopards vs. Carlin Railroaders

March 10, 2025 11:51 am

Wells lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Carlin, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Saturday's game. The Wells Leopards never let the Carlin Railroaders get on the board and left with a 15-0 win on Saturday. The game was the first time the Leopards have beaten the Railroaders on their field since May 6, 2022.

Aryanna Rodriguez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Furthermore, she didn't allow a single walk, the first time she has blanked an opponent since back in March of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while going 1-for-2. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Adriana Aguilar, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and five RBI. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jitzel Rivas, who scored three runs while going 2-for-2.

Wells' victory ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-4. That patch can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.2 runs over those games. As for Carlin, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wells will take on Virginia City at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Virginia City has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.75 runs per game on average), something Wells will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Carlin, they will challenge Round Mountain at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday. Round Mountain will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Carlin surely won't give up without a fight.
