FALLON — During the 2A boys state wrestling tournament, no Elko County athlete achieved more than Wells sophomore Johnny Glascock.

At 126 pounds, Glascock paced the Leopards — who ranked eighth with 50.5 points — and scored nearly half of Wells’ points with 23.5.

He tallied a record of 3-0 with two wins by fall and another by technical fall on his way to a dominant state championship.

In the quarterfinal, he pinned White Pine’s Theron Hernandez at the three-minute mark.

Glascock followed with a 3:23 pin of Lincoln’s Cyler Leeds in the semifinal.

For the title, he ran up a 22-6 domination of Eureka’s Orlando Casas.

Consolation Champions

In total, West Wendover — which took seventh in the team standings with 54 points — posted a pair of consolation champs.

Junior Andre Hernandez racked up a record of 3-1 with three pins and placed third in the 132-pound division.

He opened with a win by fall in 1:27 of the quarterfinal against Wells’ Maximillion Dahl, but Hernandez’s lone loss followed in the semifinal as he was pinned by Yerington’s Nathaniel Gutierrez — the eventual state champion.

In the consolation semi, Hernandez bounced back with a 28-second pin versus Battle Mountain’s Anthony Lopez-Hernandez.

For third and fourth, he stuck Dahl for the second time in 1:31.

Edward York

In the 120-pound division, junior teammate Edward York also nailed down the consolation title and went 3-1 with three wins by fall as well.

He pinned Pershing County’s James George in 1:27 during the quarterfinal but dropped a 12-3 contest by major decision to the eventual state champ, Lake Mead Christians Academy’s Kekoa Aguirre, in the semifinal.

York rebounded in the consolation semifinal with a pin of Tonopah’s Jacob Renfro in 1:42 and stuck George for the second time in just 21 seconds during the third-fourth match.
