LOVELOCK — For the Division 2A state wrestling tournament, Elko County earned seven qualifications from the Northern regional.

Wells comprised seven of the state berths — including two regional runners-up and a pair of consolation champions — while Owyhee booked a single state position.

As a team, the Leopards took fifth place in the standings and scored 95.5 points — half of a point behind the fourth-place 96 set by Yerington.

Owyhee’s 11 points ranked eighth and came from one person.

Regional Runners-Up

Wells possessed two second-place finishers.

Johnny Glascock

At 126 pounds, sophomore Johnny Glascock took second place and posted a record of 2-1 with two wins by fall.

He pinned Incline’s Miguel Avila in 52 seconds during the quarterfinal and defeated Pershing County’s Jaxson Happy by fall at the 2:51 mark of the semifinal.

In the final, Glascock lost a 16-9 decision to Eureka’s Landon Casas.

Cade Sampson

Freshman Cade Sampson ranked second at 106 pounds and finished 1-1 with a pin.

He pinned Pershing County’s Ayden Anderson at 1:35 in the semifinal, but Sampson was stuck at the 2:37 of the final by Battle Mountain Donovan Gilbert.

Third-Place Finishers

The Leopards crowned two consolation champs, while the Braves tallied one.

Gage Uhlig

Wells junior Gage Uhlig placed third at 150 pounds, going 3-1 with three wins by fall.

He pinned Eureka’s Trypp Brown at the 3:24 mark of the quarterfinal, but he lost his semifinal match by fall in 3:53 to Pershing County’s Israel Knight.

In the consolation semi, Uhlig pinned Incline’s Blake Rive in 2:32.

For the third-fourth match, he beat Pershing County’s Braxson Bird by fall at the 2:50 mark.

Maximillion Dahl

For the Leopards, junior Maximillion Dahl closed with a 3-1 record and two pins with a win by tech fall in the 132-pound division.

In the quarterfinal, he defeated Yerington’s Gavin Foster by fall in just 23 seconds prior to dropping a 14-7 decision to Battle Mountain’s Anthony Lopez-Hernandez in the semi.

Dahl claimed an 18-2 tech-fall victory in the consolation semifinal against Pershing County’s Rylie Burt and won the consolation championship with a 54-second pin of Eureka’s Aden Adams in the third-fourth match.

Kiowa Smartt

Owyhee junior Kiowa Smartt finished third at 175 pounds, going 1-1 with a win by fall.

He lost his semifinal match by fall in 25 seconds to Pershing County’s Anthony Gibson, but Smartt came back with a pin of Eureka’s Nicholas Bliss in the consolation semi.

Fourth-Place Finishers

A pair of Wells wrestlers locked up the fourth and final tickets two state in their respective classes.

Landon Hall

Freshman Landon Hall recorded a mark of 1-2 with a pin at 138 pounds.

After losing his quarterfinal match by fall in 26 seconds to Yerington’s Jaden Borsini, Hall advanced with a bye and pinned Pershing County’s Justin Carruth at the three-minute mark of the consolation semi.

In the third-fourth match, he lost by fall in 54 seconds versus Eureka’s David Sanders.

Jayden Kiser

Fellow freshman Jayden Kiser did not post a victory — going 0-2 — but advanced twice with byes and placed fourth at 113 pounds.

From a quarterfinal bye, he was beaten by tech fall with the score at 18-2 by Battle Mountain’s Finn Bundrock.

Kiser earned another bye in the consolation semi, but he was defeated by tech fall once again by a score of 24-7 by Pershing County’s Landen Burt.

Non-State Qualifier

Wells sophomore Marcus Uhart placed sixth and finished 1-3 with a pin at 165 pounds.

The Nevada State Wrestling Championships will begin with the Round of 16 for the 5A Division at noon Friday — all other divisions opening their quarterfinal matches at 12:40 p.m. — at the 3C Event Complex, in Fallon.
