WELLS — On Sept. 19, the Wells football team had no answers for Mineral County quarterback Chase Reeves or sophomore wide receiver Quentin Isom.
The Serpents — behind Isom and Reeves — rolled to a 52-24 victory over the Leopards.
Reeves completed 32-of-55 passes for 521 yards — the fourth-most eight-man total in the history of Nevada football — and tossed six touchdowns against one interception and a fumble lost.
On the ground, he carried 10 times for 74 yards with a TD — accounting for seven total touchdowns.
Isom’s performance was even higher in the Nevada record books, his 367 receiving yards the second-best single-game total in state history — catching 16 balls and scoring five TDs.
Mineral County led 20-6 after the first quarter, outscored Wells 18-6 in the second and led 38-12 by halftime.
The Serpents led the third-quarter battle 14-6 — opening a 52-18 advantage — before Wells claimed the high side of any frame in the fourth with the only-six points of the quarter.
For Mineral County, senior Andrew Stinson caught 11 passes for 115 yards with one TD.
Senior Dujuan Blondin capped the touchdowns for the Serpents, carrying 11 times for 42 yards and one score.
For Wells, sophomore quarterback Olen Morrison completed 6-of-21 passes for 85 yards with two touchdowns and two picks.
He also rushed for 14 yards on 10 attempts.
Freshman Landon Hall went 2-for-6 for 20 yards and threw three interceptions and rushed eight times for 45 yards.
Junior Joe Dahl packed the offense with 58 rushing yards on six attempts with a touchdown, also catching three balls for 50 yards and another TD.
On special teams, he took a kick return the distance — scoring three touchdowns in total — racking up 160 yards on three returns.
Throwing the ball, he was 0-for-2.
Freshman Justice Nelson carried twice for 54 yards.
Sophomore Johnny Glascock posted two receptions for 29 yards and added a 10-yard run.
Senior Cesar Berumen made a seven-yard reception and a two-yard carry.
Wells’ scoring was capped with a receiving touchdown by junior Gage Uhlig, who grabbed two passes for five yards and added a four-yard run.
Defensively, Uhlig made a game-high 12 tackles and forced a fumble.
Dahl followed with 11 stops — including a sack — recovered a fumble and picked off a pass.
Berumen also reached double digits with 11 stuffs, and Glascock neared double figures with nine tackles.
For Mineral County, Isom was everywhere — posting a team-best eight tackles intercepting four passes.
Senior Ivan Eaton also notched eight stops and made three sacks, and senior Cole Robinson was a wrecking ball with six stuffs, three sacks and two forced fumbles.
For Wells, junior Cade Cromley tallied seven tackles and recovered a fumble.
Junior Max Dahl recorded five stops and an interception, and Hall also finished with five tackles.
Sophomore Marcus Uhart created pressure with four tackles and two sacks, freshman Cade Sampson booked three tackles and two sacks and sophomore Henry Morris also notched three stops.
Freshman Raleigh Groves posted two tackles — one for a sack — and freshman Russell Peavey and Nelson closed out the stops for the Leopards with one apiece.
According to Mineral County’s stats, the Serpents intercepted seven passes.
Along with four picks for Isom, freshmen Johnny Serrato and Daniel Taylor and Stinson picked off one pass each.
