ELKO — Following several days of substantial rain, the skies parted and left perfect conditions for the Elko Junior Varsity and Division 1A, 2A varsity girls golf tournament.
On Thursday, at Ruby View Golf Course, Spring Creek put together the best team score with a total of 499 strokes — the 3A schools not eligible for the team title — and Wells captured the 1A, 2A battle with a team score of 512.
Elko’s card of 521 was the third-best round, but White Pine’s fourth-place tally of 530 ranked second among the small-school divisions.
Individually, Battle Mountain’s Kiana Gonzalez took first place with a two-stroke victory on a round of 111.
The Lady Leopards went second and third on matching rounds of 113 from both Grace Otto and Evelyn Walz, Otto finishing second and Walz placing third after a scorecard playoff.
In fourth, White Pine’s Payton Walker posted a 114.
Spring Creek’s McKenzie Gleed closed out the top-five with a 118, and Elko’s Sofia Winer rounded off the medalists with a sixth-place 120.
The Lady Spartans ranked seventh, eighth and ninth — gaining a 121 off the clubs of Addy Moore, a 127 for Leighton Carsrud and a 130 from Ruby Buzzetti.
West Wendover’s Belsi Mendoza and White Pine’s McKenna Barney closed out the top-10 with matching rounds of 132.
Of Elko County programs, Mylee Spinks shot a 133 for the Lady Spartans — Vanessa Drost posting a 133 for the Lady Indians.
For Elko, Nekane Lejardi and Erin Russell each closed with rounds of 134, Ashley Berry carded a 138 and Peili Goicoechea rounded out the Lady Indians’ roster with a 142.
Wells’ roster was closed off with a pair of 143s by Ady Martinez and Melanie Beardall.
West Wendover’s two-person team was capped with a 144 by Maggie Rodiguez.
