MCDERMITT — Coming off a pair of lopsided home losses — falling by tallies of 42-12 to Carlin and 52-20 versus Eureka — the Wells football team returned the favor on the road.

On Sept. 14, the Leopards traveled to McDermitt and nailed down their first win of the season by a wide margin with the final score at 48-16.

Wells owned the action throughout, opening with a 14-8 advantage in the first quarter.

The Leopards shut out the Bulldogs by a margin of 14-0 in the second quarter — building a 28-8 lead by the break — and pulled away with a 12-0 blanking in the third.

Down the stretch, McDermitt and Wells each put up eight points in the fourth quarter.

The Leopards improved to 1-2 on the year with a 48-16 victory.

Offensively, Wells was remarkably balanced — throwing for 151 yards and running for 146.

Sophomore quarterback Olen Morrison completed 6-of-11 passes for 67 yards and tossed three touchdowns. He also carried five times for 38 yards.

Splitting time behind center, freshman Landon Hall went 5-for-7 with a team-high 84 passing yards — running for 38 yards on eight totes.

Junior Joe Dahl brought in four catches for 93 yards and a touchdown, also carrying five times for 28 yards and another TD.

Sophomore Johnny Glascock pulled down a 33-yard touchdown grab and rushed three times for 17 yards.

Senior Cesar Berumen posted two receptions for 18 yards and a touchdown.

Junior Max Dahl rushed for 24 yards on five attempts and added a four-yard catch.

Wells’ offense was capped by freshman Justice Nelson, who ran three times for a one yard — scoring a TD — and caught one ball for three yards.

On conversions, Morrison and Nelson rushed for one each — Berumen receiving another.

On the defensive side of the ball, junior Cade Cromley recorded a team-high eight tackles — sophomore Marcus Uhart following with seven stops.
