HEYBURN, Idaho — Several local 1A cross country programs took their first strides of the season at the Raft River Meet, on Aug. 23, in Heyburn, Idaho.

None of the teams fielded enough athletes to post qualifying scores for the standings, but several athletes experienced remarkable successes.

Boys Results

Just one competitor — Valley junior Eoin Schulze (19:10.42) — crossed the finish line ahead of Wells senior Isaac Gale, who ran second with a time of 19:14.92.

Jackpot senior Jorge Avila Fragoza ran a 19:37.71 and rounded out the top-five.

For the Leopards, sophomore Mason Noorda placed 12th with a time of 20:39.25.

Carlin junior Winston Ludwig paced the Railroaders with a time of 22:18.03 for 23rd place, and freshman teammate Thomas Loftin followed in 29th and finished in 23:05.93.

In 35th, Jackpot senior Alfredo Aguilar crossed in 24:04.03 — freshman teammate Kevin Jack closing in 24:35.63 for 37th.

The local field was capped with a 48th-place 30:20.28 from Carlin freshman Wyatt Kamensky.

Girls Results

On the girls side, Wells freshman Millie Cromley paced the local pack with a ninth-place time of 24:47.62.

Junior Jaden Loftin tallied Carlin’s best time with a 27:33.23 for 21st place.

For the Lady Jags, Jackpot sophomore Karina Lucero and junior Jocelyn Cervantes crossed consecutively in 33rd and 34th with respective times of 30:04.12 and 30:13.06.

The Lady Railroaders went back-to-back at 45th and 46th; senior Theralyn Flores crossing in 38:18.65 and junior Kayona Christensen finishing in 38:20.13.

Valley Invite

On Thursday, Wells, Jackpot and Carlin all ran during the Valley Invite, in Hazelton, Idaho.

Varsity Boys

For the Leopards, Gale was the only Wells athlete who competed in the varsity boys division — taking 16th place with a time of 19:31.4.

Varsity Girls

In the varsity girls race, Jackpot posted two athletes in the field — Lucero finishing 35th with a time of 29:00.4 and Cervantes crossing in 31:43.7 for 46th.

Junior Varsity Boys

The bulk of the local 1A athletes competed in the junior varsity boys race.

Avila Fragoza led the pack with a sixth-place 19:35.4 for Jackpot, and Noorda posted a top-10 finish in ninth with a time of 21:06 for Wells.

For the Jags, Aguilar took 16th in 22:14.3.

Ludwig and Loftin crossed in consecutive order at 19th and 20th in 22:49.5 and 22:55, respectively, for the Railroaders.

For Jackpot, Jack placed 24th with a time of 24:45.7 — Martinez finishing in 26:08.8 for 32nd.

Wells freshman Jayden Kiser closed out the local field with a 35th-place 26:30.2.

Junior Varsity Girls

The JV girls race featured the largest group of local athletes with nine in the field.

Leading the way was Cromley, who crossed the line in 26:05.1 for sixth place.

Loftin rounded out the top-20 with a time of 30:01.3 for Carlin, and Wells sophomore Tegan Remington followed in 21st with a time of 30:07.6.

For the Lady Leopards, sophomore Marli Dahl ran a 32:01.8 for 27th place.

Christensen finished in 32:51.8 for the Lady Railroaders.

Wells sent four girls across the line in order from 40th through 43rd.

Junior Laurel Stevenson crossed in 36:56, sophomore April Bachman finished in 37:27.5, freshman Angela Downey posted a 37:37.8 and freshman Avery Safford closed her run with a time of 38:09.4.

Jackpot and Wells will compete Thursday during the Magic Mountain Invitational, in Kimberly, Idaho, and Carlin is scheduled to run at The Ranch Invitational on Saturday, Sept 14, in Reno.
