WELLS — The season opener for the Carlin and Wells football teams was a one-sided affair.
On Aug. 22, the Railroaders — playing on the road — torched the Leopards on offense with the pass and the run in a well-balanced domination in the non-conference matchup.
Carlin claimed the opener for both teams by a final score of 42-12.
Junior quarterback Leo Krantz was electric, completing 14-of-35 passes for 252 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions — also rushing 13 times for 53 yards and two TDs.
Junior running back Dylan Ramirez carried 14 times for 135 yards and one score and caught two balls for 45 yards with a touchdown.
In the passing game, senior Kayden Kerby rolled up 120 receiving yards on six receptions with a TD.
Junior Gage Lewis finished with three receptions for 38 yards and a touchdown, carrying three times for three yards.
Sophomore Landon Huntley brought down four catches for 34 yards, and junior Jacob Stucki closed with a 15-yard snag.
Freshman Layne Martin rushed twice for one yard.
For Wells, junior Gage Uhlig provided the bulk of the production.
He carried 10 times for a game-high 162 yards with a touchdown, made three catches for 72 yards and a TD and completed his lone pass attempt for five yards.
Sophomore quarterback Olen Morrison went 8-for-15 with 79 yards and carried 15 times but lost nine yards.
Freshman Landon Hall finished 3-of-5 for 10 yards, caught a five-yard pass but lost 24 yards on six rushes.
Sophomore Johnny Glascock added two catches for 32 yards.
Junior Joe Dahl posted three receptions for 11 yards and carried three times for 11 yards.
Freshman Michael Aguilar gained 10 yards on three totes, and junior Max Dahl took carry for three yards.
Defensively, Uhlig finished with a game-high 13 tackles — Joe Dahl reaching double digits with 11 stops.
For Carlin, Kerby posted a team-high nine stuffs with a sack.
Sophomore Jacob Reed notched six tackles.
For the Leopards, Max Dahl and junior Cade Cromley recorded six stops apiece.
For the Railroaders, Ramirez booked five tackles — three for losses — and picked off a pass.
Sophomore Holden Nalley, freshmen Hayden Grondin and Dawson Erickson and Stucki posted four stops each — Nalley going for one sack.
Wells sophomore Luis Martinez finished with four tackles, freshman Justice Nelson and Glascock each adding three.
Carlin senior Carter Pooley, junior Sebastian Anthony and junior Tryston Martinez tallied three stops each — two of Anthony’s coming behind the line of scrimmage — Pooley posting two sacks and forcing a fumble, Anthony notching one sack.
Lewis finished with two tackles and an interception.
The defense was rounded out with a tackle each for junior Jake Burgener, freshman Jessie Barnes, Kraintz and senior DJ Wolters — who recovered a fumble.
For Wells, sophomore Henry Morris closed with two tackles and sophomore Marcus Uhart added another.

The Leopards (0-1) will play their 1A North opener against Eureka at 7 p.m. Thursday, in Wells.
The Railroaders (1-0) will host Mineral County for their league opener at 7 p.m. Sept. 5, in Carlin.
