COLEVILLE, California — After dropping the season opener 20-10 at Indian Springs, the Wells softball team went 3-1 during the Laughlin tourney.

In their Division 1A North openers, the Lady Leopards took both — improving to 5-2 on the year and 2-0 in league play — edging Coleville on the road by tallies of 14-8 and 9-6.

Game One

Wells trailed 2-0 after the first inning but the deficit in half with a run in the top of the second.

Both teams plated a run in the third, but the Lady Leopards tied the tally 3-3 with a run in the away half of the fourth and a clean defensive effort in the bottom of the frame.

In the fifth, Wells outscored the Lady Wolves 6-4.

The Lady Leopards seized control and a 13-8 lead with a 4-1 advantage in the sixth and added an insurance run in the top of the seventh.

At the plate, junior Elizabeth Rivera went 2-for-4 with a double, scored a team-high five runs and drove in one.

Freshman Khloe DelRio was 2-for-4 with a double, crossed twice and added an RBI — junior Evelyn Walz finishing 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.

Freshman Aryanna Rodrguez closed 2-for-5 with a triple and a drove in a team-high five runs.

Without hits, freshman Joslynn Vallejo scored two times — sophomore Adrianna Aguilar, sophomore Grace Otto and senior Matti Kooi rolling home once each.

In the start, Delrio allowed eight runs — seven earned — on one hit with 11 walks and eight strikeouts over four innings.

In relief, Rodriguez gave up one run on two hits with three Ks and a pair of free passes in three frames.

Game Two

The Lady Leopards needed another comeback effort in the finale of the twin bill — overcoming a 6-3 deficit — plating six runs in the top of the sixth in a 9-6 victory for the series sweep.

Aguilar hit 3-for-5 with two doubles, a team-best three RBI and shared the team lead with two runs.

Delrio batted 2-for-4 and crossed twice.

Walz went 1-for-2 with an RBI, and freshman Adrianna Corral was 1-for-3 with a run scored.

Otto finished 1-for-5 with two RBI, and Rodriguez closed 1-for-5 with two runs.

Without knocks, Rivera and sophomore Andreina Mercado crossed once apiece.

In the start, Rodriguez gave up six runs — only one earned — on one hit with five walks and three Ks in 3-2/3 innings.

DelRio earned the win in relief, posting 3-1/3 scoreless frames and allowing two hits with eight punchouts and three free passes.

The Lady Leopards (5-2 overall, 2-0 in league) were slated to take on Whittell in a league doubleheader at 11 a.m. Friday, in Zephyr Cove, and will face Sierra Sage Academy/Rite of Passage in a 1A North twin bill at 11 a.m. Saturday, in Yerington.
