SPRING CREEK — After being swept in the regular season by 30-plus points in each meeting with Eureka, the Wells girls basketball team played a competitive ballgame in the Division 1A East semifinal.
No. 4 Wells was bounced a win short of a berth in the 1A East state tourney, but the Lady Leopards played the No. 1 Lady Vandals to a 15-point ballgame in a 51-36 loss.
After the first quarter, the Lady Leopards led 13-12.
But, Eureka grabbed the halftime advantage with a 13-11 run in the second quarter.
At the break, the Lady Vandals were up one at 25-24.
In the second half, Eureka asserted itself — outscoring Wells 10-3 in the third and quarter and 16-9 in the fourth.
The Lady Vandals earned their position in the 1A state tourney with a 51-36 victory.
