LOVELOCK — At the Division 2A North regional wrestling tournament, both Wells and Owyhee had reasons to celebrate.
The Leopards finished seventh in the team standings with 18 points, and the Braves followed in eighth with nine points.
Individually, both programs will be represented at state — Wells qualifying two and Owyhee sending one.
Consolation Champions
Both Wells and Owyhee crowned a consolation champ in their respective weight divisions.
Johnny Glascock
For the Leopards, freshman Johnny Glascock placed third at 120 pounds and went 1-1 with a pin.
In the semifinal, he lost by fall in 2:33 to Yerington’s Eric Pineda.
Glascock bounced back in the third-fourth match with a pin at the 4:28 mark over Eureka’s Jack Christiansen.
Alex Zamudio
For the Braves, freshman Alex Zamudio also took third at 175 pounds — despite finishing 0-1 in contested matches.
Zamudio was pinned in 33 seconds by Yerington’s Hector Ramirez, but he claimed the consolation title with a bye in the third-fourth match.
Fourth-Place Finisher
For Wells, sophomore Gage Uhlig wound up with the fourth and last qualification to state at 138 pounds — going 0-2 in contested matches.
After a bye, he lost by fall in 1:35 against Pershing County’s Jeffrey Elerick.
Uhlig advanced with another bye in the consolation bracket, but he was pinned for the second time in the third-fourth match in 5:27 by Incline’s Kyler Thompson.
Fifth-Place Finisher
At 215 pounds, Owyhee sophomore Owen Jim placed fifth — finishing 0-2.
Sixth-Place Finisher
Owyhee sophomore Kiowa Smartt ranked sixth at 157 pounds and went 0-3.
State Tournament
The Division 2A State Tournament will take place following weigh-ins at 7:30 a.m. Friday at the Anderson Auto Group Fieldhouse, in Bullhead City, Arizona.
