WELLS — In its last two games, the Wells boys basketball team played a pair of close contests — winning one and falling short in the other.
On Saturday, Jan. 27, the Leopards earned an important victory — improving to 4-3 in league play — edging McDermitt 38-32, in Wells.
But, Wells — in a non-league ballgame — fell by eight points in a 60-52 home loss on Tuesday to Round Mountain.
Versus McDermitt
Against the Bulldogs, offenses struggled to gain any traction.
Both teams scored seven points in the first quarter, and McDermitt claimed a low-scoring second period by a tally of 9-8.
At the half, the Bulldogs led by one with the score at 16-15.
In the third, the Leopards tied the tally at 25-all — reaching double digits in a frame for the first time with a 10-9 advantage.
In the fourth and deciding period, Wells came to life and posted a frame-high 13 points and allowed just seven — keeping the Bulldogs in single digits in all four quarters.
In the end, the Leopards earned a 38-32 victory — outscoring McDermitt 23-16 in the second half.
Versus Round Mountain
The Leopards dropped a non-conference game by a final score of 60-52 contest on Tuesday, at home, to Division 1A Central program Round Mountain.
