WELLS — Like Wells’ boys, the Lady Leopards went through its first half of the league schedule with an even split.

In the 1A East, Wells went 3-3 through six contests.

The Lady Leopards were handled easily in their league opener, falling by 24 points in a 58-34 road loss on Jan. 6, in McDermitt.

On Jan. 12, Wells dropped to 0-2 with a 29-point, 49-20 home loss to Eureka.

The Lady Leopards claimed their first league win of the year on Jan. 13, rolling off a 24-point, 54-30 home victory over Lund.

On Jan. 16, Wells dominated the Lady Jaguars by the mercy rule with the score at 45-6, in Jackpot.

The Lady Leopards’ winning streak reached three on Thursday with another running-clock road victory of 45-7, in Carlin.

But, Wells came up eight points short in its last game of the first half of the league slate — falling 47-39 at home to Owyhee.

Versus McDermitt

Against the Lady Bulldogs, freshman Khloe DelRio and junior Lillian Harney accounted for 29 of Wells’ 34 points.

DelRio hit four 3a and finished with a game-high 17 points, four rebounds, two assists and a steal.

Harney closed with 12 points, a game-best seven takeaways, six rebounds, a team-high three blocks and a dime in a solid all-around performance.

Junior Callie Brodsho tallied two points and four boards.

The offense was capped with a free throw apiece for junior Liz Rivera-Casas, senior Hannah Prescott and junior Michelle Sorensen.

Sorensen booked six rebounds, an assist and a steal — Rivera-Casas adding five boards, two takeaways and a dime.

Prescott turned in three rebounds, a dime and a swipe.

Without scoring, junior Gizelle Flores posted three boards and a pair of assists — freshman Aryanna Rodriguez chipping in a board and a steal.

Versus Eureka

Against the Lady Vandals, Harney was the lone double-digit scorer for the Lady Leopards — scoring 13 of the team’s 20 points — and notched a double-double with a game-high 10 rebounds, five steals, a game-high two blocks and a dime.

A trio of Wells players — DelRio, Flores and Rodriguez — each finished with two points.

DelRio yanked down seven boards, Flores went for four rebounds and two steals and Rodriguez added a board and a takeaway.

The offense was capped with a free throw by Rivera-Casas, who made a game-high six steals and a team-best two assists.

Without scoring, Prescott collected four rebounds, Sorensen finished with three boards and Brodsho notched one rebound and a dime.

Versus Lund

Wells seized the high side early and often against Lund, leading 26-12 at the half with a 16-4 run in the first quarter and a 10-8 edge in the second.

After the break, the Lady Leopards pulled away even farther with a 14-12 advantage in the third quarter and a 14-6 streak in the fourth — winning by 24 points with the score at 54-30.

Harney had a monster double-double with 22 points, a team-high 16 rebounds and five steals.

DelRio neared double digits with eight points — six coming on two 3s — a team-high seven takeaways, two boards and an assist.

Flores finished with six points, two rebounds, two steals and a dime.

The offense for the Lady Leopards was balanced; gaining four points each from Sorenson, Rivera-Casas and freshman Marli Dahl and two points apiece by Prescott, Brodsho and Rodriguez.

Rivera-Casas ripped off six steals, dished a team-high four assists and brought down one board.

Sorenson put in work with eight boards, three takeaways and an assist — Prescott posting four rebounds and two steals.

Rodriguez set up two scores for her teammates, booked a board and added a steal — Brodsho making two takeaways, dishing a dime and collecting a rebound.

Dahl finished with one rebound.

Versus Jackpot

The Lady Leopards got right against the Lady Jaguars, posting quarter advantages of 6-4, 14-0 — leading 20-4 at halftime — 15-0 and 10-2 en route to a mercy-rule win of 45-6.

Versus Owyhee

After following the 45-6 road victory over Jackpot and a 45-7 road win at Carlin, the three-game winning streak came to a close on Saturday — falling 47-39 at home to Owyhee.

Wells was down from the jump, trailing 13-9 after the first quarter and 24-14 by the break.

In the third, the Lady Leopards cut the gap to six with a 15-11 burst.

But, Wells gave up a 12-10 edge to the Lady Braves in the fourth — losing by eight with the score at 47-39.

The Lady Leopards (9-8 overall, 3-3 in league) will face Wendover (Utah) for the second time in a non-league matchup at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, in Wells, and will resume 1A East action against McDermitt at 1 p.m. Saturday, in Wells.
