TONOPAH — Don’t tell girls they can’t wrestle with the boys.

Despite girls wrestling becoming a sport in the state of Nevada for the first time during the 2022-23 season, the High Desert Rumble — which took place Friday and Saturday, in Tonopah — did not feature a girls division.

That did not matter to Wells freshman Tegan Remington, who ranked second in the 106-113 division — finishing 2-1 with a pair of pins and scoring half of the team’s third-place team total of 32 points.

Remington won her first match by fall in 1:29 over Eureka’s Jack Christiansen, but she lost her second match by fall in 56 seconds to Eureka’s Giovanni Berg.

In her last match, she finished with a 1:40 pin of Tonopah’s Gabrielle Strozzi.

Wells sophomore Gage Uhlig finished third in the 132-138 class, posting a record of 3-1 with three wins by fall.

He won his first match with a pin in 1:21 of Indian Springs’ Aiden Bishop, but Uhlig was beaten by fall in 44 seconds by Eureka’s Orlando Casas.

Uhlig bounced back with consecutive victories; pinning Indian Springs’ Owen Hansen in the consolation final and beating Eureka’s Trypp Brown by fall in 3:29 for the consolation championship.
