WELLS — In its first action of the season, the Wells girls basketball team went 3-1 during its host tournament — the Wells Rural Electric Company Classic — earning a 28-27 victory in overtime against perennial 1A power Pahranagat Valley in the process.

Versus Tonopah

On Nov. 30, the Lady Leopards tipped off the year with a 33-12 lopsided victory over Tonopah.

After a slow first quarter — with the score tied 4-4 — Wells shut out the Lady Muckers 6-0 in the second period for a 10-4 lead at the half.

In the third, the Lady Leopards distanced themselves with a 12-4 run — opening a 22-8 lead.

Down the stretch, Wells extended to a 21-point, 33-12 win on the heels of an 11-4 streak.

Freshman Khloe DelRio led the way with 14 points and added six rebounds and two blocks.

Junior Callie Brodsho followed with nine points on three 3s and snagged two rebounds.

Junior Lillian Harney turned in four points, six rebounds, four steals and a team-high three swats.

The offense was capped with two points apiece for junior Gizelle Flores, senior Nikki DelRio and junior Liz Rivera-Casas.

Casas distributed the ball extremely well with a roster-best seven assists and made a team-high five takeaways.

Nikki DelRio yanked down four boards and came away with four steals, and Flores collected five rebounds and dished an assist.

Without scoring, Aryanna Rodriguez posted three rebounds and two steals — senior Hannah Prescott closing with two boards, two steals and a dime.

Versus Elko JV

On Dec. 1, the Lady Leopards fell to the Elko JV by a final score of 35-20.

Wells led 7-6 after the first quarter, but the Lady Indians took a 15-12 lead at the half with a 9-5 run in the second.

In the third, the Lady Leopards were blanked and gave up seven points — falling behind by 10 with the score at 22-12.

Down the stretch, Elko’s JV pulled away with a 13-8 run for a 35-20 win.

Brodsho led Wells with five points and added five rebounds and an assist.

Harney finished with four points, a team-high seven rebounds, a roster-best three takeaways, one assist and a stuff.

Rivera-Casas, Flores and Rodriguez each scored three points; Rivera-Casas posting two boards, two steals and an assist — Flores tallying a board and a steal and Rodriguez forcing one turnover.

Khloe DelRio capped the offense with two points, four rebounds, two takeaways and a dime.

Without scoring, Prescott chipped in a team-high three assists, two steals and a board — freshman Marli Dahl snagging one rebound.

Versus Pahranagat Valley

Against rival Pahranagat Valley, on Dec. 1, Wells got back in the win column after a tooth-and-nail battle — fending off the Lady Panthers 28-27 in overtime.

The Lady Leopards led 18-11 at the break after a 7-3 advantage in the first and an 11-8 run in the second.

But, the Lady Panthers clawed back in the second half — posting the lone point of the third quarter and outscoring Wells 9-3 in the fourth.

With the game tied 21-all, the contest moved to overtime — Wells doing what it needed with a 7-6 stretch for a 28-27 victory.

Harney had a big double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds, playing an all-around game with team highs of seven steals and three blocks — also dishing two assists.

Brodsho posted nine points — all coming on three treys — three rebounds, an assist and a steal.

Rivera-Casas finished with four points, four steals, a team-best three dimes and a board.

Khloe Delrio capped the scoring for Wells with two points and jerked down five rebounds.

With points, Flores booked four rebounds and an assist, Prescott made a steal and Dahl snagged one rebound.

Versus Green Valley Christian

After an emotional and physically draining win over the Lady Panthers, the Lady Leopards did not let down in its tournament finale — blasting Green Valley Christian by 31 points with the score at 38-7.

Wells led 7-0 after the first quarter, gave up just one point in the second and opened a 12-1 advantage at the break.

In the third, the Lady Leopards went for the throat and pulled ahead by 21 with a 14-4 flurry.

Wells never relinquished its stronghold in the fourth, closing the game on a 12-2 streak for a 38-7 win.

Harney continued her dominance, notching 17 points, three steals, two rebounds, two assists and pair of rejections.

Khloe DelRio posted eight points, a team-high eight rebounds, a roster-best six steals, one dime and a block.

Flores finished with five points, two boards, an assist and a takeaway.

Prescott and Rivera-Casas turned in three points apiece; Rivera-Casas recording six swipes and two dimes — Prescott closing with three boards, one assist and a steal.

The offense was rounded out with a deuce by junior Evelyn Walz, who collected one rebound.

Without scoring, Brodsho notched three rebounds, two assists and a pair of swipes — Rodriguez adding five steals, an assist and a rebound.

Dahl closed with two boards.
