Elko Daily Free Press-November 28, 2023
WELLS – Wells Combined School Drama Club members had a busy first few months of the school year.
Drama Club trip to Dayton, Nevada
When our six Drama Club officers made it up to Dayton High School on Sept. 15-16, we were given a presentation with small drama-type games. With the presentations, we were learning how to work as a team with your drama club. The next presentation was about how to plan out budgeted money.
The trip soon came to an end, and Dayton gave us a delicious lunch with ice cream. We said our goodbyes and left Dayton to go back home. The drama leadership had fun on this trip and can’t wait to have another one if it comes up.
DJs at Wells High School homecoming dance – Sept. 30
This year we have opened up a DJ service to better our school with the local functions and to get on-the-job experience. As of now we are borrowing the soundboard from the gym and found old speakers and light trees in our drama storage. Then we bought some lights on Amazon using our club funds, and we worked together as a class to come up with a playlist for the dance. Seven of our drama members worked as DJs at the dance with shifts of 2-3.
Macbeth and visit to GBC in Elko – Oct. 16
Some of our drama club members went to go see Macbeth at the Great Basin College in Elko. The GBC Drama Department gave us a tour of their facility and showed us their backstage props and dressing rooms, with brand new technology that they’re trying out. They started a new technology using a projection overlapping which seemed like a see-through projection screen. They used amazing tech skills with this show, and everyone loved it.
An Evening at the Improv – Oct. 18
This was our very first year having an improv show. Everyone was nervous and scared. Every one of our class periods and drama club meetings was about improv and skits. There were six people chosen to be in the improv part of the show, and for the skits and sketches we chose 11 people. We worked backstage to have props made and technology checked.
Elf: The Musical in Sandy, Utah – Nov. 10
The Drama Club and some of the choir/band members went to the Hale Centre Theatre in Sandy, Utah. They gave us a backstage tour of how the magic happens. Then we got to watch their production Elf: The Musical. It was honestly such a fun experience, and we are excited for more trips to come.
