XC State Championships

RENO — In the Division 3A Nevada State Cross Country Championships — encompassing both the 1A and 2A programs — several Elko County schools were represented as far as teams and individuals.

North Tahoe breezed to the state championship with 19 points, Incline was second with 33 and Lincoln County took third with 42 points.

Behind Wells, Lake Mead Christian capped the top-five with 104 points.

West Wendover rounded out the six-team field with 115 points.

On the girls side, West Wendover was fifth with 89 points — the Lady Wolverines winning the tiebreaker Lincoln County.

The Lady Lakers gave North Tahoe a clean sweep for North Tahoe — nearly posting a perfect top-four score with four girls in the top-five — scoring 11 points.

Incline finished second with 46 points, Lake Mead Christian was third 58 and Coral Academy of Science-Reno finished fourth with 70 points.

Boys

Individually, Incline senior Noah McMahon was the state champion with a time of 16:35.

Locally, the best finish was posted by Wells junior Gonzalo Roque — who crossed in 18:41 for eighth place and one spot outside of a 1st-Team All-State selection.

In 13th, Jackpot junior Israel Garcia — an individual qualifier — closed his run in 19:12 for a 2nd-Team All-State nod.

Junior teammate Jorge Avila Fragoza — the Jaguars’ second and final individual runner — placed 19th with a time of 19:51.

Wells freshman Isaac Gale ran second for the Leopards and 26th overall with a time of 20:13, followed by a 20:55 in 28th by sophomore teammate Cameron Livingstone.

West Wendover was paced by a 31st-place time of 21:15 from junior Angel Trujillo, and Wells’ top-four scoring was capped with a 36th-place 21:54 by freshman Mason Noorda.

For the Wolverines, senior Daniel Collazo crossed in 22:18 for 41st place — freshman teammate Ethan Hammer finishing 44th in 22:22.

In 46th, junior Christopher Burcham ran a 22:27 for the Leopards.

West Wendover’s team scoring was rounded out with a time of 23:58 for 48th by senior Manuel Ibarra — sophomore Fabian Jaramillo following in 24:06 for 49th.

Wells sophomore Carson Ballard closed out the top-50 with a time of 24:28.

The Wolverines’ roster was capped in consecutive order; sophomore Anthony Bair placing 51st in 24:46 — and sophomore Fabian Collazo crossing 52nd in 27:17.

The 53-person field was finished off with a time of 29-flat by Wells junior Truman Kington.

Girls

Running as an individual qualifier, the fastest time of Elko County athletes in the girls race was set by Wells senior Kira Boner — who finished in 26:09 for 19th place.

The Lady Wolverines earned consecutive runners across the line in 20th and 21st; senior Daisy Luna crossing in 26:45 and freshman Keyla Escareno closing in 26:53.

West Wendover junior Alicia Dominguez ranked 28th with a time of 30:13, and the team scoring was capped with a 34th-place 33:54 by freshman Karina Perez.

The field was closed with back-to-back Lady Wolverines across the line; freshman Alexis Miramontes posting a 35th-place time of 35:39 and senior Sydney Smith finishing in 39:34 for 37th.
