WELLS — When the dust settled on the season, the Wells football team was one spot outside of a position in the 1A state tournament.
The Leopards closed the year with a 2-8 overall record and a 2-4 mark against 1A North opponents.
After a 44-22 victory over league opponent Carlin — Wells’ first win of the season — the Leopards followed with a 54-6 loss to Pyramid Lake.
On Oct. 12, in a non-league ballgame, Wells was beaten 70-22 on the road against Grace, Idaho.
But, the Leopards closed the season on a high note — notching a 56-44 road win over Owyhee on Oct. 21.
Wells finished fifth in the 1A North standings with a 2-4 record, trailing the fourth and final berth for a trip to the postseason by one spot — Mineral County finishing fourth with a mark of 3-3 in league play.
The Serpents blanked the Leopards 64-0 on Sept. 15, in Hawthorne.
