WELLS — After an 0-6 start to the season — losing twice to Sierra Lutheran by scores of 52-6 and 30-0, 76-0 against Lighthouse Christian, 38-0 versus Virginia City, 64-0 to Mineral County and freshly removed from a 42-0 road loss to Eureka — the Wells football team broke through at home in its most recent contest.

On Thursday, Sept. 28, the Leopards knocked down their first win of the season in a league ballgame against Carlin.

Wells began the game with a bang — putting its best foot forward early — opening a 20-0 lead in the first quarter.

In the second quarter, both the Leopards and the Railroaders put six points on the board — Wells taking a 26-6 lead to the locker room.

Wells essentially sealed Carlin’s fate with a 12-8 advantage in the third, building a 38-14 lead as the game went to the fourth quarter. Down the stretch, the Railroaders outscored the Leopards 8-6 but were unable to climb out of the 20-0 deficit from the first quarter — Wells notching its first victory by a final score of 44-22.


The Leopards (1-6) will host Pyramid Lake (3-1) at 7 p.m. Thursday, in Wells.
